I hate to burst the bubble, but don’t want someone to make the same mistake I made. The medical transcription industry is being monopolized by a few big corporations that promised MTs that in exchange for agreeing to take more than half their pay, they would be able to zip through voice recognition reports as editors. That has never happened. Now it not only takes longer to edit reports than it would to type them, but the pay is still low, minimum or a little more if you are lucky. In order for the companies to continue paying minimum, they impose line minimums that are nearly impossible to attain. Then you have to choose between making minimum or making errors, all the while being micromanaged in terms of work schedule, accuracy and line rates. Yes, they want you to commit to a schedule and weekend time too. There goes the myth of flexibility too. I would never encourage anyone to pay thousands of dollars for training in an industry that dooms the worker to sweatshop existence and ages. The schools will tell you it will only take months finish but Career Step grads generally spend considerably longer getting though the course which translates into extension fees, but once you have have begun the course and have paid so much already, you are stuck and have to keep going. At least you think you should. Actually, it is better to stop, cut your losses and move on. Save your money and your time and find another way to work from home. You can do NON-medical transcription and do not have to spend time and money in a medical transcription school. Do yourself, and your bank balance a huge favor and read EVERTHING you can about medical transcription/editing and read the reviews about the big companies before you do anything, and above all that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Good luck with your decision.
