Chiming in kind of late here, but I would caution against pus-like, which implies it is not actually pus. Purulent might be an option, but pussy in reference to pus is a real word (Webster). There are many words that might cause one to wince, such as cock and bitch, which are perfectly acceptable when talking about chickens and dogs. It's all about context and arena of discussion, in this case medicine.
