Free online training for just about everything - Ciara

Posted: Jun 29th, 2016 - 8:52 am In Reply to: Our Transferrable Skills - MT

I am one of those SoftScript employees laid off in May. I’ve quickly learned after working with the same computer programs after 27 years I am way behind on my technical skills. Because I’m looking onto other fields I’m taking free online courses and wanted to share the two main sites with you.

ALISON
There are a ton of free classes on this site recommended by the EDD. Everything Microsoft, accounting, and even foreign languages. On completion of some classes you can pay for a certificate if you want. The only problem is because you have to have an account the site goes down (the first time I used the site I got through one module and then the website was down for two days). I do plan on taking a couple of the shorter classes when I’m done with GCF. Alison’s website is at https://alison.com/.

GCF LEARN FREE
Because you don’t have to have an account this site never seems to go down. They have all the Microsoft classes you need but no certificates. I’m currently taking the Excel 2007 class (which I have on my computer) and next will take the Outlook and PowerPoint classes. Check it out at http://www.gcflearnfree.org/.

I wish all of you the best of luck in furthering your careers and really think about your transferable skills ~ there are so many careers out there you can look at if you just brush up on your Microsoft skills.
