Yes, wasn't it wonderful back in the day when, as you described, residents and full fledged doctors DID APPRECIATE us? I can't imagine a teaching hospital these days offering any award to their residents for being good dictators. So sad. As you have said in your post "good luck to us all" and may I also add the prayer of serenity "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." That is the only way to keep our sanity in this profession.
