It IS your job - Tired MT

Maybe telling someone they did a good job is not written in your job description, but it is something that you need to do. I will speak for every MT out there....a little gratitude and encouragement can motivate any MT and MAYBE there would not be so many errors. It is your job to help MTs become better and part of that process is called ENCOURAGEMENT. MTs are HUMAN and are going to make mistakes...but if people like you would realize that TEAMWORK would produce better results, then maybe you wouldn't be seeing so many mistakes. MTs are low paid. We have NO reason to do good work. We get crap for pay. We get put down, criticized, and belittled ALL the time by QA, we get some of the poorest communication on the world wide web, we get little or no benefits...we have to give up our lives to make LESS than minimum most of the time....so even a LITTLE bit of encouragement would go a long way. I have never seen ANY career or job in the world where the workers are so unappreciated as I have seen in the medical transcriptionist world. WE ARE EDUCATED PROFESSIONALS...and NO HUMAN is 100% perfect all the time. There is not ONE MT out there who purposely makes mistakes and 95% of ALL mistakes are because the doctor or dictator is NOT clear, cannot speak English, or simple can't say the stupid words correctly. ANY MT who makes a mistake due to the dictator's lack of ability to speak proper or clear English should NOT be punished --- the dictator should be the one who is FIRED because they are literally putting a patient in jeopardy by their stupid LACK of speaking skills.

In the end....all these MT companies and medical facilities need to realize one important thing....if it weren't for us MTs wasting our time and talent to do their reports for such a low pay, they would not get their reports. MTs are the REASON the companies exist. So, we DESERVE RESPECT, GRATITUDE, AND ENCOURAGEMENT. Until management and QA people are willing to work with MTs as a TEAM, you're going to continue to see poor work. Don't blame the MT for their poor work...if it is not the dictator's poor speaking ability...it is the lack of support and encouragement MTs get from QA and management.
