Fill in the blank? -- sm - anon

So, the dictator stated: Overall, kidney function resolved. I understood that but it seemed a word was missing (ESL dictator) but the account is verbatim so I blanked function as the sentence did not make sense. This report was audited, the blank filled in and I was docked the 0.25. Would you challenge this? How do you handle these type of situations where you understand what is being said but it is incorrect/nonsensical.
