Because no one else will hire them. I put out over - gonesoon

20 job applications since November, all jobs within 30 minutes drive time from me, for jobs that transcriptionists can supposedly transition into. Not here - I went to a workshop at a local workforce center, and the first thing out of the facilitator's mouth was that age discrimination is very much alive and well in this state. I am 57. McD's wouldn't even interview me. So much for them hiring anybody. Since March, I have been working part-time in a retail store at minimum wage because the store manager decided to take a chance on me. I am one of the customer service desk cashiers. I very much appreciate the chance because I am gaining the customer service experience I was lacking and the fact that he had that much faith in me that I could do the job. I have great coworkers. Is this my life goal? No. But, for now, it pays the rent, and the rest of my expenses come out of my savings.
