female voices versus male voices. It is the employment of a deliberate vocal affectation in an effort to sound authoritative that is problematic. It sounds ugly and is obviously not natural, so of course people are annoyed. Speaking in vocal fry is not impressive to the audience it is intended to impress, so the effort just backfires. One starts to wonder, "why do you have to pretend to be competent or authoritative?" and likely will dismiss or ignore someone speaking like that. I just want to get away as it sets my teeth on edge. Just use your normal voice and put your effort into actually being competent at whatever it is you're doing.
