Medical mistakes - sm

3rd cause of death in the US. Really wish they would dissect this further and see where the problem lies. Could any of it be mistakes by transcriptionists? Are they in country or out of country? Is this why we need 99.6% accuracy now? Wonder what the mistake rate is straight typing versus ASR? Wonder if the mistakes would go down if you hired transcriptionists that are paid what they are worth and make this a profession again and not a minimum wage job. So many variables. The one thing I do know is, you get what you pay for. Who in their right mind would enter this "profession" now? We dinosaurs that are stuck here for whatever reason, age, family situation, location, will be gone one day then you have a bunch of low-skilled minimum wage workers handling a very important part of patient care. Unless, of course, the job goes away and doctors find a way to handle this aspect of patient care themselves. Maybe they will wake up and demand in-house transcriptionists with degrees. Something has to give, very glad I am close to retirement.
