Eight years out of transcription is a very long time when it comes to new drugs, surgery equipment, and things like that. There's no real way to learn those before stepping back into MT--it's always a learning experience in progress.
Please do carefully read notes here on what MT has become in terms of working for the MTSO's.
Good luck whatever you end up deciding.
