they can make anywhere between 10 to 15 dollars an hour, are not employees of a hospital (although there are scribes now in doctor's offices, etc) and they are entering and coding as the doctor sees the patient (point of service), so money is being saved from needing Medical Transcriptions/Editors at all, when it eventually gets to 100,000 scribes by year 2020 from the article, and hospitals are loving it because coding is also being done - where I worked it was started in the ER and the reports I have seen are very good and thorough, just like MTs used to do.

So now we are also up against this...and it saves money all the way around from coding to not paying benefits, and the fact this is not a yet regulated field -

Technology, outsourcing overseas, and now scribes...
