if your EMR software will allow it. the system I work under does not so you have to number by hand. The PTB apparently don't think that is problem worth solving but they get paid whether they work or sit around and play solitaire.
Once you start an autonumbered list, you can insert numbers anywhere in the list and it will change the numbering for you.
