Summary of Job Duties:
The Medical Coder assigns appropriate diagnostic codes according to established coding guidelines, audits medical record to validate that superbills have supporting documentation, and queries physicians when appropriate if documentation is found to be inadequate, ambiguous or unclear.
Required Certifications/Licensure:
CCS, RHIA or RHIT required
Required Experience:
2 or more years coding experience in Rehab hospital coding
Required Skills:
- Ability to code utilizing ICD-10, CMG, MS-DRG, APR-DRG and APC
- Ability to plan and organize effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
