I am also almost deaf in one ear due to Meniere's disease. I have actually had very little problem continuing to work as an MT. I do need complete quiet so my family knows to keep it down when I'm working, even more so than they did before I lost my hearing. I also would advise investing in a superior quality headset, if you don't have one already. It makes a world of difference (and that's true even if you aren't hearing impaired!) As I said though, I have worked for 3 years now with virtually no hearing in one ear and I'm managing just fine. It was a gradual loss though, so I did have time to adjust to it fading away. I'm sure it would be much more difficult if the loss were sudden.
