They're also frequently called "wireless modems", and they're great for connecting multiple users to the Net at the same time. Just as with phone tethering (the other way to connect to the Net via cellular), wireless modems require you to have a data plan.

I don't recommend any public wi-fi spot for our work, including the library. Having a "private cubicle" doesn't negate the opportunity for hacking into your signal.
