Very thorough discussion! Hope more folks see it.

I just looked again for that malware and now I can't find it, so maybe my antivirus programs finally caught up with it... it was Searchnu and something else similar to that and came with something I got from CNET, can't even remember now what it was. But I will defintely look for that Malwarebytes, thanks for the info!
