working for Medquist about 9 years ago i was told there HAD to be a comma after the word 'but' EVERY TIME. i swear, i was corrected any time i did not put a comma after the word but. then i went to work for a different place and they simply could not explain why Medquist would insist on grammatically incorrect ways of doing things. ever since then, i've pretty much learned to ignore QA.
