Do the rest of you find, being paid only per line, - that its nearly impossible to enjoy time off? Posted: Nov 6th, 2009 - 12:07 pm
Another poster stated they only get paid when they type (just like the rest of us). Since going from per-hour to per line wages, I've been finding it nearly impossible to take any kind of a break whatsoever, whether it be a day off, or an hour break. I make so little at this, that all I can think of while doing anything other than typing, is how much money am I losing. Do you, too, start feeling guilty about unchaining yourselves from your desk for even the shortest periods? When I take a day off I don't spend any money on entertainment or anything, but even if I'm in the garden, taking a walk, or riding my bike, I feel like I can't afford to be doing that. I feel that the work-at-home, slave-wages job of MT has a lot of insidious side-effects that are detrimental to our health: inactivity, tension, worry, depression, you name it. Back in the days when I had a *real*, inhouse job, it was great to be able to leave it all behind you at the end of the day when you walked out the door. Now, we're haunted every time we even glance in the direction of our PC desks.
