Veterans...no apostrophe...here's why I would do it this way... - flybye

It's a question of ownership not receivership; who owns the mail? The Veterans (Affairs Department)

Your sentence, "The VA still sends me Veterans mail, but I ain't no veteran."

VA=Veterans Affairs

If you replace VA with Veterans Affairs the sentence would read, "The Veterans Affairs send me Veterans mail, but I ain't no veteran."

Since the mail belongs to the Veterans (Affairs) you do not use an apostrophe because it is a department title.

He is neither receiving other veterans' mail nor is he receiving veteran's mail since he himself is not a veteran.

Therefore, my choice would be "Veterans mail" as in mail sent from the Veterans Affairs Department....

Great question! =)
