I worked for 2 years onsite because you need the help that is there for you. Working on your own at home is not a good idea until you are more familiar with all aspects are of being an MT. There are valuable things to learn from other people onsite that you can't get at home. After I put in the two years, I have had no trouble whatsoever getting jobs. Good luck!
